There are over 1.5 million registered nonprofit organizations in the U.S and this number continues to grow as new nonprofits are formed. Each year, over 60,000 groups apply for tax exempt status.

At the Foundation Center, we have the privilege of meeting with hundreds of these aspiring nonprofit founders. We are committed to helping people who are interested in starting a nonprofit make a positive impact on their communities. We created this assessment tool to help aspiring nonprofit founders determine whether they are ready for the hard work of starting a nonprofit and to direct them to the resources they need to build skills and gain knowledge of the sector.

This survey was created in partnership with the Foundation Center and Syracuse University.
